IVF Cost in Nepal

Overview:

A single IVF cycle in Nepal typically costs between NPR 208,500 and NPR 515,000, including consultation, investigations, medicines, monitoring, and the laboratory procedure. Most published quotes for a full cycle fall between NPR 300,000 and NPR 500,000. Adding ICSI raises the range to NPR 233,500–615,000. A frozen embryo transfer is much lower, at NPR 74,500–170,000.

IVF treatment costs in Nepal depend on the clinic, treatment type, and individual needs. The following estimates provide a general overview of IVF treatment costs in Nepal and do not reflect Maya IVF Clinic’s prices. For Maya IVF Clinic’s specific treatment costs, see the section “IVF Cost at Maya IVF Clinic” below.

According to the World Health Organization roughly one in six people of reproductive age experience infertility at some point, and the high cost of treatment medicines remains a major barrier to care in many countries. That is why we think couples deserve to see what each part of treatment costs before they commit to anything.

IVF cost in Nepal: itemized estimate for one fresh cycle

This table assumes a woman using her own eggs and her partner's sperm, without ICSI, donor gametes, or genetic testing.

1,500 – 5,000

Fertility investigations

10,000 – 30,000

Medicines

40,000 – 150,000

Monitoring scans and blood tests

150,000 – 300,000

Pregnancy blood test

2,000 – 5,000

Estimated total

208,500 – 515,000

Medicines are the largest variable. How many injections you need depends on your age, ovarian reserve, and how your ovaries respond, which is why two patients at the same clinic can receive quite different bills.

IVF with ICSI: cost estimate

ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) places a single sperm directly into each mature egg. It is recommended for selected patients, most often when semen results show a low count, poor movement, or abnormal shape, or when earlier fertilization has failed. It is not required for every IVF cycle, and professional bodies such as ASRM and ESHRE advise against using it routinely where there is no male-factor problem. Your fertility specialist decides, based on your semen analysis and history. Some clinics fold ICSI into the package price; others charge it as an add-on. Published add-on figures in Nepal range widely.

ICSI add-on

25,000 – 100,000

If your clinic already includes ICSI in its package, the add-on row does not apply to you, so ask how your clinic prices it.

If a man has no sperm in the ejaculate, surgical sperm retrieval (such as TESA) may be needed, and it is priced separately. Your specialist will tell you whether this applies.

Frozen embryo transfer (FET) cost

A frozen embryo transfer uses embryos created and frozen in an earlier cycle. It does not repeat ovarian stimulation or egg retrieval, which is why it usually costs far less than a fresh cycle.

Egg freezing cost: what Nepal clinics publish

We have not built an itemized total for egg freezing, because published Nepal prices for it do not agree. Reported figures fall into two very different groups:

What is quoted

Reported range (NPR)

Full stimulation-to-freezing cycle

320,000 – 450,000

Lower "egg freezing" fees where it is unclear whether medicines are included

50,000 – 150,000

Annual egg storage

10,000 – 60,000 per year

Egg freezing requires the same ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval as the first half of an IVF cycle, so medicines and monitoring are a real part of the budget. The lower quotes above often do not state whether they cover these. Before booking, ask for a written estimate that names medicines, retrieval, vitrification, and the first year of storage separately. Egg freezing does not guarantee a future pregnancy.

Additional costs that may come on top

Not every patient needs every item. These are the charges that are commonly billed separately from a base package.

Item

Reported range in Nepal (NPR)

Embryo freezing (vitrification)

25,000 – 60,000

Annual embryo storage

8,000 – 70,000 per year

3,000 – 8,000 per visit

Genetic testing of embryos (PGT), when medically indicated

60,000 – 500,000, depending on the laboratory and number of embryos tested

Donor egg or donor sperm programs

Priced separately, varies widely

Genetic testing is recommended only in selected situations, such as a known genetic condition or repeated pregnancy loss. It is not routine.

What Can Affect IVF Expenses?

Two couples can walk into the same clinic and leave with very different estimates. That is normal, because the bill follows your medical situation rather than a fixed price list. No one needs every service on this page. These are the factors that most often change the total:

Age and ovarian reserve: Women with a lower ovarian reserve may require higher medication doses, and some may need more than one IVF cycle.

Fertility diagnosis: Conditions such as blocked fallopian tubes, PCOS, endometriosis, and male-factor infertility may require different treatment approaches.

Medication requirements: The type, dosage, and duration of fertility medications depend on the prescribed treatment protocol and can significantly affect the overall cost.

Response to ovarian stimulation: Women who respond slowly to stimulation may require additional medication, ultrasound scans, or blood tests.

Sperm quality: Semen analysis results help determine whether conventional IVF, ICSI, or, in selected cases, surgical sperm retrieval is appropriate.

Number of embryos: Suitable embryos remaining after transfer may be frozen for future use, which involves additional freezing and storage fees but may reduce the cost of a subsequent embryo transfer.

Frozen embryo transfer: A frozen embryo transfer performed in a later cycle usually incurs separate treatment and monitoring costs.

Additional investigations: Some patients may require additional diagnostic tests or a hysteroscopy before starting fertility treatment, increasing the overall cost.

Genetic testing: Preimplantation genetic testing may be recommended in selected cases when medically indicated, such as certain inherited genetic conditions. The specific indication should be assessed by a fertility specialist.

Previous IVF treatment: Following an unsuccessful IVF cycle, the doctor may recommend additional investigations or adjustments to the treatment protocol, which can affect the cost of subsequent treatment.

IVF Cost at Maya IVF Clinic

One of the most common questions patients ask is, “How much does IVF treatment cost?” At Maya IVF Clinic, the cost of IVF depends on each patient’s fertility needs, recommended treatment plan, and prescribed medications. Every fertility journey is different, so the overall cost may vary depending on the investigations, medications, procedures, and additional services required. Understanding the potential costs before starting treatment can help you make informed decisions about your fertility care. The fertility team will assess your needs, discuss suitable treatment options, and provide a detailed written cost breakdown before treatment begins.

Frequently asked questions

How much does IVF cost in Nepal?

The estimated cost of one fresh IVF cycle in Nepal ranges from NPR 208,500 to NPR 515,000, with most published prices falling between NPR 300,000 and NPR 500,000. The variation is mainly due to differences in medication costs and the services included in each clinic’s package.

How much does IVF cost in Kathmandu?

Kathmandu clinics fall in the same range: about NPR 208,500–515,000 per cycle. Kathmandu has the largest concentration of IVF centers in Nepal, so couples from other districts should also budget for travel and short stays during monitoring.

What is included in the IVF treatment cost?

An IVF package usually includes consultation, monitoring scans, egg retrieval, laboratory fertilization, embryo culture, and one embryo transfer. Medications, additional investigations, ICSI, and embryo freezing are often charged separately. Ask the clinic for a written breakdown of all included services and additional costs before starting treatment.

Is medicine included in the IVF cost?

Often not. Stimulation and post-transfer medicines are commonly billed separately and are reported at about NPR 40,000–150,000, depending on your response.

How much does ICSI cost in Nepal?

ICSI may cost an additional NPR 25,000–100,000, although some clinics include it in their treatment packages. It is generally recommended for selected patients, particularly those with male-factor infertility, rather than for everyone undergoing IVF.

How much does a frozen embryo transfer cost?

The estimated cost is NPR 74,500–170,000, including consultation, medications, monitoring, embryo thawing, and transfer. Embryo freezing and storage are charged separately.

Is embryo freezing included in the IVF cost?

Usually not. Freezing is typically an extra NPR 25,000–60,000, and storage is billed yearly. Confirm whether the first year of storage is included.

Does insurance cover IVF in Nepal?

Standard health insurance in Nepal generally does not cover IVF, but policies differ. Check your own policy, and ask the clinic whether any installment options are available.

How much does egg freezing cost in Nepal?

Published prices vary too much to give one figure: roughly NPR 320,000–450,000 for a full stimulation-to-freezing cycle, with lower quotes that may exclude medicines. Ask for medicines, retrieval, freezing, and storage to be listed separately.

What additional costs can occur during IVF?

Repeat scans, embryo freezing and storage, ICSI, genetic testing when indicated, surgical sperm retrieval, and travel. You may need only some of these, or none.
