Male Fertility Solutions
Male infertility is more prevalent than many realize—approximately one-third of infertility cases are due to issues related to males. Several factors can impact male fertility, such as:
- A low sperm count or the complete absence of sperm in the semen (Azoospermia)
- Poor sperm motility or abnormal sperm morphology
- Obstructions in the reproductive system that hinder the release of sperm
- Hormonal imbalances
- Infections or previous injuries to the testicles
- Varicocele, which are enlarged veins in the scrotum
- Lifestyle factors, including smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, stress, and exposure to heat or harmful substances
- TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration)
TESA is a straightforward procedure where sperm is gently extracted directly from the testicle using a thin needle. This is performed under local anesthesia and is generally recommended for men with no sperm in their semen (non-obstructive azoospermia). The sperm retrieved is subsequently utilized for fertilization via ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection). - PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
PESA is carried out when there is a blockage that prevents sperm from being naturally released. During this procedure, sperm is collected from the epididymis (a small tube located behind the testicle where sperm is stored) using a fine needle. Similar to TESA, this is a quick, low-pain procedure performed under local anesthesia. - TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
TESE is slightly more involved than TESA and is often employed when prior sperm retrieval methods have been unsuccessful. A small tissue sample is taken from the testicle, from which sperm is extracted in the lab. This technique is beneficial for men experiencing severe sperm production issues and is performed under local or light sedation. - PICSI (Physiological ICSI)
PICSI is an advanced method for sperm selection used during ICSI. In this process, only mature, genetically healthier sperm that adhere to a specific substance (hyaluronic acid) are selected. These sperm have a higher likelihood of resulting in a healthy embryo, thereby enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy. PICSI helps lessen the risk of miscarriage and genetic anomalies.
